COMING OUT ... GENESIS OF THE FORUM

Perhaps not the most eloquent of launch speeches,(I wasn't the one to have written this in the first place) this is nonetheless a poignant tale of our finally coming out into the world. That we mustn't stay reticent and hidden in the shadows has become even clearer now ---- the driving force behind this whole venture is now in the great beyond --- within and around the concrete entity that is this forum, but no longer physically present.
Where we would have uncorked the bubbly in RL and lived it up together for a few hours in cyberspace, we are meeting more in a meditative than a celebratory frame of mind. And yet there is cause for celebration. Every birth is a miracle ... that after a long and painful labor of love, should strike out and spread its still-wet wings is just such a miracle. Yes we will celebrate ... in a different way ..... celebrate the gift of our own lives and our chance to inspire and motivate people and to fire their imagination and to touch the poetic soul within us and in others, celebrate the fact that we have one another to carry us through.

Catch a Falling Star

"Our birth is but a sleep and a forgetting: The Soul that rises with us, our life's Star, Hath had elsewhere its setting, And cometh from afar: Not in entire forgetfulness, And not in utter nakedness, But trailing clouds of glory do we come ...... " --- William Wordsworth from Intimations of Immortality
catchafallingstar aka lovelysmom, Rajam Jagannatha Rao in "Real Life" .... she was many things to many people and to me, my dearest friend. A month before her passing she created a user id catchafallingstar on this forum (from a favorite poem of hers) to post for Jake Gyllenhaal's birthday..... the inaugural post on the forum. Her next post was about the ACLU picture .... we were getting ready to open the site and the forum to the public in early January. Destiny decreed otherwise. She was reading and writing even after her fall ... she completed her story of what Brokeback Mountain meant to her and completed an intense intimate poem 3 evenings before she sank beyond the point of recovery. For a week she was emotionally and spiritually "there" and "not there" ..... the turmoil of her spirit was a strangely revealing experience. It's almost like she hung in there in flesh and blood because she wanted me to share in that.... the experience has been engraved deep into me, but it may be a lifetime before I understand any of what it meant. She wanted to leave me the last little bit of wisdom that she could and I continue each day, after her passing to learn something new from her. The night she finally passed I logged into DC forums and put in a new signature line from Stephen Gyllenhaal's "Grammar"
" if only I can see and hear between the hesitations, words and nearly endless breaths: to have joyful births, there must be joyful deaths."
She wants us to launch the site and the forum. The "falling star" which has apparently set will rise and shine.
With this line from a song that she so loved, we'll celebrate her life
"Rejoice ... rejoice ... We have no choice .... but to carry on"
